Dr. Robert Mangum Dr. Robert Eugene Mangum was born in Kansas City, MO on September 27, 1929 to the late Eva Pearl and Carl Dickerson Mangum. He died in Starkville, MS on February 9, 2012 at the age of 82. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by Mary Agnes Emmerich Mangum and brother Harold Lee Mangum. Visitation for Dr. Mangum will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Starkville, MS from 9:30-11:00 A.M. A Funeral Mass and celebration of his life will begin at 11:00 A.M. with Father John Bohn officiating and Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Bob received his Bachelors degree from St. Louis University in 1956, a Masters degree in Education from Indiana University in 1963 and his Ph.D. in 1967 from the University of Missouri. After earning his Doctorate he taught Educational Psychology at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Illinois. In 1969 he joined the faculty of the College of Education at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma. He became Department Head of Applied Behavioral Studies at OSU and did consulting work for the proposed College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University. Dr. Mangum was invited to join the founding faculty to develop the curriculum for the new college and joined the MSU family in 1975. Upon the acceptance of the first class of students, he taught Professional Development to all-aspiring veterinarians until his retirement in 1991. Bob was an avid MSU sports fan and he loved interacting with athletes, especially baseball players. As a "foster parent" he spent many hours discussing the game and watching the young men develop life skills. He was the winning guest coach for the Banana Split Series in 2000 and took pride that he didn't have to make too many trips to the mound. Bob loved his family, his church, and the Starkville community. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Jeri VanWinkle Mangum and his Children - Robert T. Mangum and Sally of Columbus, MS, Eva Magnum Oliver and David of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Daniel J. Mangum and JuliAnne of Montgomery, AL, Joy Mangum Stubbs, Germantown, TN and Kimberli Clifford and Chris of Hoover, AL. Grandchildren – Rachel and Sarah Mangum, Tim and Katie Oliver, Ian, Ryan, and Conor Mangum, Jessica and Jody Stubbs, Courtney, Caroline and Carson Clifford. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 607 University Drive, Starkville, MS 39759.
