Robert Wilson McKay, Jr., 66, of Montgomery, AL passed away early Monday morning, July 10, 2017, at his residence.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2017, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 13, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Bro. Steve Lammons officiating and Bro. Ralph Windle assisting. Interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Mr. McKay was born October 31, 1950, in Houston, MS to Frances Gray McKay and the late Robert Wilson McKay, Sr. He was a longtime member and served as deacon, and various committees at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. Mr. McKay was currently a member of First Baptist Church Montgomery. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for Microtek Medical for 43 years. Mr. McKay was an avid sports fan and loved the New Hope Trojans and the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He coached kids basketball and little league baseball and softball. Mr. McKay served as Staff Sargent in the Mississippi National Guard from 1970 to 1976. Mr. McKay was a loving husband to his wife Elaine Willis McKay, a loving father and grandfather. In addition to his father, Mr. McKay was preceded in death by his father-in-law- James Walker Willis, sister-in-law- Sandra Nabors Willis, and brother-in-laws- William "Bill" Conner and Ed Teague.
Mr. McKay is survived by his wife- Elaine Willis McKay of Montgomery, AL; daughter- Wendy (Kent Carson) Brendle of Montgomery, AL; son- Robert Wilson "Rob" (Emily Mills) McKay, III of Prattville, AL; grandchildren- Gray Lyles Brendle, Cate Scott Brendle, Brooks Ellis Brendle, Robert "Will" Wilson McKay, IV, and Britton Mills McKay; mother- Frances Gray McKay of Columbus, MS; sisters- Elaine (John) Teague Wick of Keystone Heights, FL and Barbara Conner of Columbus, MS; brother-in-law- Glenn Willis; mother-in-law- Charlene Lyles Willis; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Henry McQueen, Tommy Yates, Doug Murrah, Ray Crane, Gary Chism, and Richard Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be Juanice Hayes' Sunday School Class, Deacons and Former Deacons of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, New Hope Class of 1968, Old Rook Club, Former Microtek Employees, Allen Mills, Bro. David Watson, Billy Rollins, and Charles Everett.
