Dr. Robert Patrick Myers, 85, of Columbus, MS passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS.
Visitation was held Saturday, December 16, 2017, from 10:30 – 11:30 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Columbus, MS. A funeral service followed Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 11:30 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Rev. Anne Harris as officiant. Interment was in Pine Flat Cemetery, Oxford, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Dr. Myers was born February 6, 1932, in Magee, MS to the late Luke Patrick and the late Minnie Magee Myers. He graduated from Magee High School in 1950. Dr. Myers was a member of Kappa Sigma while attending Millsaps College and later attended the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1960. Dr. Myers was a veteran of the United States Army having served as a medic. He also completed his residency at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Dr. Myers was a family medicine doctor and had the privilege of delivering his daughter- Joanna Myers-Bolton. He was an internal medicine doctor and received his pharmacist degree from Sanford University in Birmingham, AL. Dr. Myers received his Dermatologist degree after completing a residency at UAB. He also attended classes at Mississippi College School of Law and successfully passed the bar exam. Dr. Myers worked as a chemist at Ingalls Shipyard and was over Atomic Medicine Hospital in Pascagoula, MS. He also made the Myers Itch Cream through compounding medicines and contributed in making Aquaphor Healing Ointment. Dr. Myers loved his work and was dedicated to his passion for serving others, he never turned a patient away serving as many as he could to ensure the well-being of others. He gave educational speeches about the shingles virus all over the U.S. Dr. Myers was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was the Paul Harris Fellow of the Columbus Rotary Club. He was active with Palmer Home, serving others in various nursing homes throughout the community and donating time and resources to the Good Samaritan Medical Clinic. He served rounds after hours at the hospital. In addition to his parents, Dr. Myers was preceded in death by his son- Bobby Myers, and his sister- Patricia Steen.
Dr. Myers is survived by his wife of 53 years- Joann Taylor Myers of Columbus, MS; daughter- Joanna (Paul) Myers-Bolton of Columbus, MS; step-daughter- Lorrie Bandy of Oxford, MS; step-grandchildren- Megan Beemster, Sarah Beemster, and Sam Beemster.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jack Reed, Dr. Doyle Sumrall, Dr. George Elsberry, Dr. Wiley Hutchins, Keith Mooney, John Davis, Rick Riley, Bennie Savage, Bill Myers, Osler Moore, and Joe Stephens.
