Obituary

Robert Thomas "Tookey" Robertson, age 70, died Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lowndes Funeral Home. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel.

Tookey was born on February 20, 1949 in Columbus, MS to the late Vernon Commodore and Nancy Swift Robertson. A lifelong resident of Columbus, he graduated from S. D. Lee High School and then went on to serve in the United States Army in the Republic of Vietnam. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for heroism while serving in the 196 th Light Infantry Brigade. Upon return from Vietnam, he became employed at Ceco Building Systems. He retired from Ceco as a computer programmer in February after 46 years of service. He was an avid Alabama football fan, and he loved to golf and spend time with family and friends. Tookey had a personality that was larger than life and he was generous to a fault. His passing will leave an unfillable void in the lives of his family and friends, but he will live forever in our memories and our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Nancy Robertson, and his brother, Richard Dean Robertson. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Singleton Robertson; his son and best friend, Tad (Libby) Robertson of Columbus; step-daughter, Corrie (Dale) York, Millport, AL; step-son, Ray (Ali) Evans, Winfield, AL; step-son, Brandon Birmingham, Columbus; family friend, Caleb (Lauren) Morrison, Columbus; granddaughter, Walker Robertson, Columbus; step-granddaughter, Kalli York, Millport, AL; step-granddaughter, Blakely Evans, Winfield, AL; brothers, Will (Sue) Robertson, Meridian, MS, and John Perry Robertson, Columbus, MS.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Columbus-Lowndes Humane Society, P.O. Box 85, Columbus, MS 39703 or the charity of your choice.
