Sammie Blanch McLemore Gunnels, 81 of Columbus, MS passed away, Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Trinity Healthcare, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be Friday, January 23, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will be Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Lammons officiating. Interment will be in Furnace Hill Cemetery, Vernon, AL with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Gunnels was born October 16, 1933 to the late Sam & Pearlie Egger McLemore in Sulligent, AL and moved to Columbus in 1957. She retired in 2004 from American Trouser after 41 years of employment in their quality control department. Mrs. Gunnels loved working in the yard especially with her flowers. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gunnels was preceded in death by her husband - J.W. Gunnels; sisters - Dot Warren, Mary Lou Bookout and Ann Rogers; brothers - Frank McLemore, and Euin McLemore. Mrs. Gunnels is survived by her daughters - Brenda (Woody) Crowe, Columbus, MS and Glenda Chandler, Columbus, MS; son - Stan (Cheryl) Gunnels, West Point, MS; sister - Mellie Noland, Atlanta, GA; brother - Jack McLemore - Vernon, AL; grandchildren - Ginger Allen, Michelle Smith and Justin Crowe and 7 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Justin Crowe, Aaron Smith, David Gunnels, Kevin Gunnels, Steve Patrick and Wayne Christian. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Trinity Healthcare and Paul Terrell.
