Obituary

Sharon H. Whitten, 70, of Columbus, MS passed away on May 9, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 11, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Bro. Ty Danielson officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Whitten was born on June 15, 1952, to the late Alfred B. "Happy" Hogue and Dorothy Earline Hogue of Yazoo City, MS. She graduated from Benton Academy and later received her B.S. degree in Accounting from Mississippi University of Women in 1975. She retired as an accountant/business manager from the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library with more than 29 years in 2014. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Mrs. Whitten is survived by her husband of 50 years - Terry Whitten; son – Brian Whitten (Teresa); daughter – Ashley Wyers (Buddy); grandchildren – Montana Hester (Chase), Kellen Whitten, Brilee Whitten, Bentley Wyers, and Jase Wyers; great-grandchildren – Kacen Enlow, Jaxon Hester, James Scott, and Paxton Cottrell; brothers – John Hogue (Helen) and James Hogue; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Pallbearers will be John A. "Jay" Hogue, Jr., Marvin Joseph "Joey" Hogue, Brandon Dozier, Gary Franks, Woody Crowe, and Ray Steed.

Memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Children's Ministry, 1791 Lake Lowndes Road, Columbus, MS 39702.
