Shirley Scales, 91, of Columbus, MS passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at The Windsor Place, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 11:30am-12:30pm at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow at 12:30pm in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Curtis Bray officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Scales was born May 8, 1924 to Oscar Pierce and Beulah Patton Pierce in Electra, TX. She married Lt. Lowell D. Scales on August 18, 1945 in Long Beach, CA. Mrs. Scales moved to Columbus, MS from Japan because of her husband's military assignment and has lived in the area for 55 years. She is a member of Shaeffer's Chapel United Methodist Church, Columbus, MS, where she was very active and taught Sunday School and served for many years as a pianist. Mrs. Scales, along with her husband, built, established, owned, and operated Magnolia Manor Nursing Home for 28 years - the first nursing home in the area. She served as a volunteer for the Contact Helpline for 20 years. Mrs. Scales was also a member of a local garden club. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Scales is preceded in death by 1 sister and 3 brothers. She is survived by her husband-Lt. Col. (retired) Lowell D. Scales, Columbus, MS; daughter-Charlotte (James) Black, Columbus, MS; son-Dwight (Ann Kellum) Scales, Columbus, MS. grandchildren-Tracee (Tom) Pauly, Melissa Cooper, and Christee Holbrook; great grandchildren-Jacob Pauly, Tyler Pauly, Anna Claire Cooper, Madison Holbrook, Megan Holbrook, and Morgan Holbrook. Pallbearers will be Randy Burris, Randy Friesen, Waimon Hendrix, Billy Pickens, Robert Hunt, and Bob Fruzia. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Friesen, Ken Holbrook, Alayna Friesen, Randall Burris, Robbie Hudson, and Special Caregivers at Windsor. Memorials may be made to Contact Helpline, P.O.
