Silas E. Cravey, Jr., more affectionately known as "Jr.", passed away Monday, May 29, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson, MS after a brief illness.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 1, 2017, from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow Thursday, June 1, 2017, at 11:00 AM at the Lowndes Funeral Home Capel with Bro. Mel Howton officiating. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery in Millport, AL with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Cravey was born July 30, 1939, to the late S.E. and Cora Cravey in Tifton, GA. He was the youngest of one brother and five sisters. Following high school graduation, he joined the US Air Force, where he served for four years. After his military service, he settled down in Columbus, MS where he met and married his wife Linda F. Fields. He worked for Brown Awning for many years, fabricated many beautiful structures on the Mississippi University of Woman campus and in the surrounding area. He later joined Georgia-Pacific in Belk, AL where he helped develop the company from its foundation and worked there for 25 years.
After retirement, he enjoyed spending time fabricating small structures, furniture, maintain a small garden, and spending time with family and friends. He never missed a daily meeting with friends at the Huddle House. Mr. Cravey was a member of New Salem Baptist Church Caledonia, MS. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda F. Fields Cravey.
Mr. Cravey is survived by his two daughters – Tami (Tim) Turner and Tarron (Tony) Carley; son – Tim (Frances) Cravey; seven grandchildren – Laura Guyton, Timothy Turner, Colin Turner, Valerie (Christopher) Brown, Cristin (Tug) Fosberg, Brad Carley, and Dustin Carley; seven great-grandchildren, and many other close family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Turner, Colin Turner, Dustin Carley, Christopher Brown, Tug Fosberg, and Les Wozniak.
