Sylvia June (Hollis) Bell left her earthly home for her heavenly one on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, after an extended illness.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Lowndes Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home with Bro. Todd Mordecai officiating. Interment will take place at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Columbus, Mississippi.
June was born on June 1, 1946, in Vernon, Alabama, to J.B. and Adean Hollis. She was the second of four children and dearly loved her parents and siblings. At age 12, her family relocated to Jackson, Mississippi, where she later graduated from Forest Hill High School. On a blind date arranged by her sister, June met the love of her life, Albert “Butch” Bell. They made their home in Columbus, Mississippi, where they raised their family and shared 59 wonderful years together until his passing in 2023.
Throughout her career, June worked in administrative and human resources roles, most notably with General Tire and Weyerhaeuser Company at both the Columbus, MS, and Millport, AL, locations.
June was known for her kind and thoughtful spirit. She loved the Lord and faithfully served her Mount Vernon Church family in many ways. She truly sought to be the hands and feet of Jesus, showing love and compassion to everyone she met. Always ready with a phone call, visit, card, or homemade dish, June found joy in caring for others. She also loved gardening, cooking, and traveling. After retirement, she and Butch spent time exploring beautiful and interesting places across the country. Above all, June treasured her family. With tireless love and quiet strength, she cared for her husband through his long illness, faithfully by his side until his passing. She adored her grandchildren, and loved spending time with her children, siblings, nieces, and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
June was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert Maurice “Butch” Bell; her parents, J.B. and Adean Hollis; and her sister, Janice Whitaker.
She is survived by her son, Jeff (Laure) Bell of Starkville, MS; daughter, Kristin (Brian) Sidaway of Peoria, AZ; five grandchildren, Nicholas Bell and Patrick (Samantha) Bell of Huntsville, AL, Ashley Sidaway and Katelyn Sidaway of Peoria, AZ, and Christopher Bell of Starkville, MS; one great-granddaughter, Charlie Ruth Bell of Huntsville, AL; her sister, Dona (Darrin) Michel of Slidell, LA; and her brother, Phillip (Alisa) Hollis of Brandon, MS.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Bell, Patrick Bell, Christopher Bell, Darrin Michel, Sam Selzer, and Will Selzer.
