Obituary

Thelma Holcomb Caldwell, 86 passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital- Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS due to the effects of long term Alzheimer's disease. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 10 – 11 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM with Bro. Glenn Miller officiating. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, directing. Thelma was born January 31, 1927 in Furrs, MS to the late Louis Fleetwood and Vallie Lorene Scruggs Holcomb, Pontotoc, MS. She retired from Western Textile and Dyncorp. Thelma and her husband, Clifton enjoyed many years camping, gardening, square dancing with the Flying Squares and participating in events with Hamasa Temple. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Thelma was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing delicious meals for family and friends. She is preceded in death by infant son- Danny; sisters- Vera Thompson, Gertrude Nicholson and Verna McCord; brothers- Curtis and Dewitt Holcomb. Thelma is survived by her husband-Clifton Russell Caldwell Sr., Columbus, MS; sons-Clifton Russell (Anita)Caldwell, Jr. and Theron Allen (Denise) Caldwell both of Columbus, MS; grandchildren- Justin (Jenny) Caldwell, Allison (Shane) Floyd, Allen and Carla Caldwell; great-grandchildren- Thomas Caldwell, Lauren and Haley Floyd all of Columbus, MS; sister- Katherine Parks, Blue Springs, MS. Pallbearers will be Justin Caldwell, Allen Caldwell, Shane Floyd, P.J. Dole, Larry McCord and Mike Kingsley. Honorary pallbearers will be Members of Hamasa Shrine Temple, Charles Russell Berry, Roger Wade, Bill Punk, Neil Beard, Mark Williams, Jerry Tate and Eddie McDivitt. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Mississippi Chapter, 196 Charmant Dr. Suite 4, Ridgeland, MS 39157 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 815 Market St., Galveston, TX 77550, or donor's favorite charity. The family would like to extend special thanks to her caregivers at Trinity Place, Third floor nurses at Baptist Memorial Hospital and Baptist Hospice.
