Thomas Edward "Tommy" Wiggins, 81, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019, at Vineyard Court Nursing Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 from 5-7pm at Lowndes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 11:00am from the funeral home Chapel, with Bro. Bobby Cobb and Bro. Dan Louman officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Rowan Cemetery, under the direction of Lowndes Funeral Home.
Mr. Wiggins was born April 12, 1938, in Caledonia, MS, to the late C.D. "Charlie" and Gladys Dodson Wiggins. He was a member of Border Springs Baptist Church in Caledonia where he served in many capacities. He was a member of the Columbus Gideon Camp. Tommy was formerly the manager of Cash & Carry Building Supply in Columbus and was a past member of the Lion's Club, Board of Directors of the MS Material Association, charter member of the Lowndes County Volunteer Fire Department for twenty years, Board of Aldermen for the Town of Caledonia for sixteen years, volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, member of the Lowndes County Mission Volunteers and YMCA Board Member.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Mitchell Douglas "Mickey" Wiggins and his sister Gladys Inez Wiggins Adair.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Mildred Davis Wiggins; sons Thomas Douglas "Doug" (Donna) Wiggins of Caledonia, Charles Edward "Eddie" (Jennifer) Wiggins of Fredericksburg, VA; three grandchildren: Carrie (Greg) Whitlow, Josh Wiggins and Jacob Wiggins; two great grandchildren: Hunter and Addison Whitlow; sisters Ann Wiggins (Bob) Fussell of Amory, MS, Dot Wiggins (Charles) Curtis of Corinth, MS, and brother Joe (Lynda) Wiggins of Millport, AL; also sister in law Emma Jane Wiggins and brother in law Ray Adair; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be: Joshua Wiggins, Jacob Wiggins, Greg Whitlow, Mitch Wiggins, Jason Minga, Aubrey Adair, Kenneth Sisson and Charlie Curtis. Recognized as honorary pallbearers will be: Members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Border Springs Baptist Church, the Columbus Gideons, Bill McBryde and the past and present employees of Cash and Carry Building Supply, Ken Byars, Willis Peek, Harold Partain and the Caledonia Class of 1956.
The family wishes to extend their most sincere thanks to the staff of Vineyard Court Nursing Homes and Encompass Hospice.
