Obituary

Thomas "Possum" Holliday, Sr., 69, passed away Friday, October 7, 2016, at Waverly Care Home, West Point, MS.


Visitation will be Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS.  A funeral service will be Monday, October 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM  in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mel Howton officiating.  Interment will be in Egger Cemetery, Caledonia, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.


Mr. Holliday was born July 28, 1947 to the late James Walter and Mary Grace Brownlee Holliday in Columbus, MS and was a lifelong resident of Columbus, MS.  He was a member of Sulphur Springs Primitive Baptist Church in the Bartahatchie Community.  Mr. Holliday retired in 2009 as a shipping clerk after 42 years with Omnova Solutions.  He loved animals and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Mr. Holliday was a member of the Big Buck Hunting Club, Ethelsville, AL and known as "Possum" and "The Fishman".  He enjoyed attending New Hope Football and Baseball games and his son and daughter's softball games at Propst Park.  Over the past 7 years, Mr. Holliday battled with Alzheimer's. Mr. Holliday was preceeded in death by his brother - Bo Holliday and brother-in-law - Richard Donley.


Mr. Holliday is survived by his wife of 46 years – Patsy Coleman Holliday, Columbus, MS; daughter – Patty Holliday (Bryan) Dill, Guntown, MS; son – Thomas I Holliday, Jr., Columbus, MS; sisters – Bettye Donley, Niceville, FL and Sarah Britt, Ethelsville, AL; grandchildren – Bryanne Dill and Taylor Dill.


Pallbearers will be Walt Holliday, Frankie Bolton, Tommy Hall, Derek Lowery, Roy Baker and Marty Richardson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jody Johnson, employees of Omnova and past and present members of the Big Buck Hunting Club, Ethelsville, AL.
