Thomas Lowell "Tommy" Hughes, 59, of Columbus, MS, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015, at his residence.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 28, 2015, from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 28, 2015, at 11:00 AM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tim Lee officiating. Interment will be in Beersheba Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.
Mr. Hughes was born February 13, 1956, to Charles Lowell Hughes and the late Dorothy Fuqua Hughes in Columbus, MS. He lived in this area for a lifetime and was a member of Beersheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Columbus, MS. Mr. Hughes worked at Omnova for 37+ years. He married the former Mitzi Franks on September 18, 1976 in Columbus, MS. Mr. Hughes led a simple life and was content at his home where he looked forward to spending time with his family and dog, Gabby. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing. Being called Poppy by his 4 precious grandchildren was his proudest achievement in life.
Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife of 39 years- Mitzi Franks Hughes of Columbus, MS; daughter- Tori (Bo) Hughes Edmiston of Columbus, MS; son- Drew (Ashley) Hughes of Columbus, MS; sisters- Diane (David) Gray, Clarice (Terry) Petty all of Columbus, MS, Lynn (Terry) Brown of Alpharetta, GA; brother- Chuck (Mary Ann) Hughes of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren- Brayden Edmiston, Callie Edmiston, Peyton Hughes and Anna Charles Hughes.
Pallbearers will be Billy Holliman, Freddie Fowler, Jim Spencer, Terry Petty, Kevin Spencer, Lenny Ring, Mike Gray and Preston Gray.
