Trenton R. Sheffield, 88, of Columbus, MS, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024, at his residence.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. Service will be Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 3:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus MS with Bro. Ty Danielson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Columbus, MS.
Trenton was delivered by a midwife to Ernest R. and Mary Lee Rye Sheffield in January of 1936. Trenton grew up in Lowndes County and graduated from New Hope High School where he played football and drove a school bus. He entered the Army National Guard while in high school and following graduation, joined the United States Army. After the army, he began working at Hooker Chemical, now Nouyron where he retired with 39 + years. In addition to working at the plant, he farmed cotton, and soybeans, and raised cows. He served on numerous farm boards over the years and was a member of Mt. Zion Church. Trenton loved the Lord, his family, and our country. If you crossed his path, he would say, "Let me give you a little happy. Read the last two words, The words…" Jesus Saves".
He is survived by his wife of 69 years., Georgia Snowden Sheffield; children- Mitzi (Curtis) Younger, Trenton Russell (Kay) Sheffield, and Valerie Sheffield. He adored his granddaughters- Brittany (Haney) Matani, Whitney (Sam) Strickland, Madison (Rob) Shelton, Maggie (Daniel) Dunnam, and Meredith (Keith) Hester. His great-grandchildren were his sunshine, Jude and Prudence Strickland, Jacob and Jonah Matani, Grant and Rylee Hester, and Ellyn Weathers Shelton.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Dunnam, Haney Matani, Sam Strickland, Keith Hester, and Rob Shelton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Ruffin's Sunday School Class, Dr. Rosenblatt, Candace Blanton, Andy Bailey, Robert Malone, Roosevelt Davis, and Curtis Younger.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 ST. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Wounded Warrior Project.
