Obituary

Vergie Gee Vergie B. Junkin Gee, age 91, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS. Visitation was held Saturday, March 19, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will be Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Dr. David Skinner, Bro. Steve Lammons, and Bro. Ralph Windle officiating. She will lie in state from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The interment will immediately follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Vergie was born November 20, 1919 in Pickens County, Alabama to the late James Harvey and Lovie Sullivan Junkin. She married the love of her life, Scott Gee, on April 20, 1940. God blessed them with three wonderful children. She was blessed by God with many talents that included: quilting for the Alzheimer's Research, flower gardening, sewing for her grandchildren, teaching Sunday School at Mt. Zion for over 60 years, and the love of the children. At an early age she began working at Seminole Manufacturing. During her lifetime she was employed at American Bosch, Humbolt, Fashion Barn, and She Shop. She also owned and operated Gee's Grocery. She was honored for work and support of the NARFE Chapter 1388 Alzheimer's Research. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband - Scott Gee, brother - Nathan (Reba) Junkin, sisters - Zelma Junkin and Bertha (Russell) Bryant. She is survived by her daughters - Joan G. Oswalt, Shirley Butler and son - Jerry (Beth) Gee all of Columbus, MS; brother - B.C. Junkin and sister - Mary Lou Stokes, both of Columbus, MS; grandchildren - Angie (Larry) Austin, Columbus, MS, Greg (Kathy) Gee, Columbus, MS, Rhonda (Scott) Campbell, Columbus, MS, Scott (Pam) Oswalt, Columbus, MS, Mark (Shelly) Oswalt, Columbus, MS, Arnie Creekmore, Somerset, KY, Keith (Shannon) Oswalt, Madison, MS, Pam (Cory) Bennett, Las Vegas, NV, Jody (Betsy) Gee, Columbus, MS, Michael (Miranda) Butler, Winfield, AL; great grandchildren - Shana (Chris) Maxey, Nikki Ausin, Chelsea Austin, Alexis Bennett, Zachary Oswalt, Tucker Oswalt, Lauren Bennett, Max Gee, Zoe Oswalt, Ethan Oswalt, Brayden Oswalt, Kate Scott Gee, Anna Beth Butler, Hannah Oswalt, Caroline Butler, Connor Campbell; and great-great grandchildren - Shaelee Maxey, Brylee Jo Maxey, Ryker Maxey and Kyndal Austin. Pallbearers will be David Tilley, Dale Stokes, Richard Junkin, Donald Atkins, Bobby Brandon, Dale Atkins, Donald Bryant, Lawrence Atkinson and Roscoe Shepherd. Honorary Pallbearers will be Terry Oswalt, Johnny Hill, Arnold Creekmore, Buddy Barksdale, Jimmy Austin, Vernice Tilley, James Camp, Larry Stokes, David Sansing, Josh Sansing, Ray Crane, Bobby Suggs, Bob Reeves, Robert Lee Loftis, Bobby Ward, Johnny Page, Trenton Sheffield, Oliver Junkin, Hardy Hester, Jimmy Harris, Alan Crane, James Ervin Oswalt, David Dortch, Bonnie and Tom Smith, Aurora Nursing Home Staff, Andy Brown, Saum Chiropractic Staff, and all former Sunday School children she taught over the last 60 years.
