Virgil Wayne McGairty, 77, of Columbus, MS, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Golden Triangle in Columbus, MS.

Visitation will be Friday, January 3, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Service will be Friday, January 3, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS with Bro. Melvin Mordecai officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens in Columbus, MS. Lowndes Funeral Home will be directing.

Mr. McGairty was born December 25, 1947, in Pickens County, Alabama to the late James Robert McGairty and Laurice Mae Dean McGairty. He worked at Omnova Solutions for 40 years. Mr. McGairty was a member of  New Life Worship Center in Gordo, Alabama. He enjoyed woodworking, being outdoors, and working in the gardens. Mr. McGairty loved spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid racing fan and loved watching NASCAR, especially # 48. Mr. McGairty loved helping others and sharing a good meal at Kountry Kitchen. In addition to his parents, Mr. McGairty is preceded in death by his wife- Mary Sutton McGairty, and sister- Diane (Butch) Adams.

Mr. McGairty is survived by his sons- Mark (Teri Atkins) McGairty, and Brian (Emily) McGairty; grandchildren- Lindsey (Ross) Chunn, Macy (Jordan) Hawkins, Jon Davis McGairty, Tatum McGairty, and Tucker McGairty; siblings- Charles (Elaine) McGairty, Carolyn (Virgil) Spain, Brenda (Rodney) Hedrick, and Robin McGairty.
