Obituary

Virginia Pollard Cox, 82 of Columbus, MS passed away Friday, December 06, 2019, at the University of Birmingham Hospital, Birmingham, AL.

Visitation will be Monday, December 9, 2019, from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus,  MS.   A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Bro. Sammy Crawford officiating, and Bro Breck Ladd and Bro. Tommy Gillon assisting. Interment will be at Fellowship Cemetery, Mathiston, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Cox was born on October 28, 1937, in Choctaw County, MS to the late Charley and Ruth Smith Pollard.  She attended Wood Junior College before she moved to Columbus, MS over 60 years ago.  Mrs. Cox was a loving and caring person and cared for many relatives in her home over the years.  She served her community and worked with the ladies' garden club at Palmer Home. Mrs. Cox loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and Mississippi State Sports.  She was an active member of Fairview Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and helped prepare meals for families at church, she was a member of Lynn Oliver/Emily Bates Sunday School Class.  Mrs. Cox retired from Ben E. Chilcutt, New Home Building Stores after 29 years as a bookkeeper in 1990.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her daughter – Cathy Cox Hill and infant son - Daniel B. Cox and her brothers – Charles Pollard, Broadus Pollard and Jimmy Pollard.

Mrs. Cox is survived by her husband of 63 years – John B. Cox, Columbus, MS; son – Tim (Tricia) Cox, Columbus, MS; son-in-law – Larry (Monica) Hill, Houston, TX;  grandchildren – Miranda (Bill) Spinner, Virginia (Brantley) Abrams, and Jacob (Jossie)  Hill; great-grandchildren – Vivian Spinner, Clark Spinner, Davis Abrams, Annie Abrams and Clay Abrams.

Pallbearers will be Smitty Burks, Doug Burks, Keith McGee, Chuck Pollard, Steve Barth, Mark Adams, and Jeff James.  Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Oliver/Emily Bates Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, 127 Airline Road, Columbus, MS 39702 or the charity of the donor's choice.
