Walter O. Land, 75, of Columbus, MS passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Trinity Health Care.

The graveside service will be Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Friendship Cemetery in Columbus, MS with Bro. James Black officiating.  Lowndes Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

Mr. Land was born on October 28, 1947, to the late G.W. and Earline Jones Land in Columbus, MS.  He graduated from S.D. Lee High School in 1965.  He was an Elder at Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Caledonia.  Later, he became a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus.  Early in life, he started working at Egger's Department Store in Columbus.  When they closed, he began working at Jim's Clothing.  Later, he became an insurance agent for Gulf National Life, from where he retired.  He was also a devoted supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Mr. Land is survived by his daughter – Wendi (Ellis) Lachney; granddaughter – McKensi (Bryce) Braddock; sisters – Barbara (Leon) McGarity and Debbie (Larry) Duke; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will include Larry Duke, Bill Land, and Bryce Braddock.  Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Whitecar, the staff at Trinity Health Care, and the staff at Sanctuary Hospice.
