Walt Long, 75 of Columbus, MS passed away Sunday May 5, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital- GT, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 5-8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Bro. Tommy Whaley officiating and Dr. Bill Hurt and Bro. Al Hamm assisting. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Long was born April 17, 1938 in Pickensville, AL to the late Joe Reed and Annie Grace Freeman Long. Mr. Long was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was devoted to the church and enjoyed visiting the elderly and sick. Mr. Long enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his animals. He worked at General Tire for over 14 years and was a member of the National Guard. Mr. Long is survived by his wife-Melissa Jones Long, Columbus, MS, children- Lane Long and Reed (Jessica) Long both of Columbus, MS, brother- John Long, Hayneville, AL, sister- Mary Ann Howerton, Pickensville, AL , grandchildren- Caitlyn Long and Tyler Long, many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Matt Eaves, Ben Williams, Kenneth Sisson, Herbert Junkin, Shawn Harris, Mike Williams, W. L. Godfrey and Melvin Junkin. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Members of the Herbert Junkin Sunday School Class, the members of the Jeanne Perry Sunday School Class, Dr. Brett Brown, Mel & Lisa Brewer, Joe & Frances Farley, Joe & Nell Shaw, Dewayne & Marsha Burns and Waymon Earl & Vera Tilley.
