Walter K Wickham

Walter K Wickham, age 73, passed away peacefully Monday morning, September 14, 2026, with his family gathered by his side in Columbus, MS, his home for over 46 years.

Born January 9, 1953, in Gallipolis, Ohio, Walter took full advantage of being a military brat and spent his life bringing warmth, humor, and dedication to everyone he met. He was a loving and patient husband, a steady presence for his family, and a beloved friend to so many.

His varied career took him to Sears as a hardware salesman, which is evident by the large number of tools in his shop. Shortly afterward, he began working with computers in Jackson and Starkville, MS, finally landing in Columbus. He took his skills to American Trouser, Maxxim Medical, Block Corporation, and then the City of Columbus, from where he retired in 2020.

In his younger years, Walter was an avid bowler. At the peak of his hobby, he played in three different leagues, a testament to his competitive spirit and the camaraderie he shared with his teammates, even if his knees eventually paid the price for all those strikes and spares.

Sweet Walter is survived by his beloved dog Kalli; his wife of 51 years, Pam; his son Jeremy “Wick” and daughter-in law, Diana; his grandchildren Logan (Caitlyn) Heineck and Landen Heineck; great grandchildren Copelynn and Austin John Heineck. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Benny Moore; his brother-in-law Kevin (Lauri) Moore; and nephews Ben and Adam Moore.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Shizuko Wickham and a younger brother, as well as his mother-in-law Betty Moore.

We would like to thank Walter’s stellar medical teams at Baptist Memorial Hospital and Gentiva Hospice.

The family will gather for a private memorial service at a later date.
