Obituary

Wiley Samuel Scarbrough 71, of Columbus, MS, passed away October 8th with his wife praying by his side. Visitation to be held Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 1:00 PM-3:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will be at 3:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Wiley attended Sturgis High School and married his beautiful wife Pat in 1963. He served 16 years in the National Guard before becoming an entrepreneur starting his first business adventure we knew as "Monograming by Pat" in 1965. The talent God gifted both Wiley and Pat with, most others could only dream of having. Later they started Bags by Pat making purses with MSU Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels, every sports team around and deer, horses, you name it and wife, Pat could draw it and Wiley could sew it. From purses to boat seats he did it all. Making many friends along the way. He later opened Scarbrough Upholstry in Starkville and later added another location in Columbus. One hobby Wiley loved was dirt bike and car races with his family. I guess that is why he loved where he lived. He could sit on his porch and listen to cars race if he didn't feel like going to watch his son Billy. The other was ball it didn't matter what kind. Watching his grandchildren gave him so much joy. He loved laughter, jokes, hugs and being the life of the conversation. He loved eating at Starkville Cafe being a true member of the liars club and enjoying the friendship of all the men. I don't ever remember a time seeing him around family that he wasn't smiling. Wiley had a second birthday in year 2000 when he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Wow! What a celebration in heaven that day. He loved his church family, especially the men's Sunday school class at Pleasant Hill Church where he was member. The day he shared his testimony Wiley said "he had lived the worlds view point of a life with success, but found Jesus. Realizing you are never too old to turn from our old ways and go the other way. That is the greatest success in the end "going to heaven and being with Jesus". "In the end that is all that matters". This is what he would want for all of his friends and family to know and remember. Wiley is preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Lodean Scarbrough, sister baby Sylivia Jean and a baby brother. He is survived by his spouse of 52 years, Pat Hamby Scarbrough (the love of his life), two sons Billy Glen Scarbrough, wife Janet of Ethelsville, AL and Brandon Scarbrough of Columbus.
