Obituary

Willa Deane Hawkins, 87, of Steens, MS passed away Monday, April 6, 2015 at Windsor Place, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 6-8PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 2PM at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, MS. Interment will follow in Lone Oak Cemetery, Steens, MS. Mrs. Hawkins was born June 5, 1927 in Lowndes County, MS to the late Selma and Inez Mason Graham. She performed with her brother on WCBI Radio in the 1940s as "The Sweethearts of the Air." Mrs. Hawkins sang for many weddings and functions over the years. She was an avid NASCAR fan and loved her family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawkins is preceded in death by her husband - Eugene Owen Hawkins, Sr., daughter - Shayrn E. Hawkins, brother - Sandy Graham, sister - Suzette Winter, and step-mother - Bertha Lee Graham. Mrs. Hawkins is survived by her son - Eugene (Lorene) Hawkins, Jr., Steens, MS, grandsons - John Hawkins and Michael Hawkins, brothers - Herbert (Francis) Graham and Bobby (Sandra) Graham, sisters - Barbara (Jay) Pinkerton and Kathy (Bobby) Ricks, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Benny Taylor, Ryan Polk, John Hawkins, Joey Smith, Paul Graham, and Paul Thorne. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wyman and Carol Mason, Sandy Pinkerton, Shirley Gilmore, Brenda Polk, and the Staff of Windsor Place and Community Hospice. Memorials may be made to Lone Oak Cemetery Fund, 80 Mason Circle, Steens, MS 39766.
