William Russell Perkins, Jr., affectionately known as Bill, 81 years of age, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Aurora Health and Rehabilitation Center, Columbus, MS.  His family will hold a private memorial service.

He was born in Corinth, MS and was the only child of the late William Russell Perkins, Sr and Frances Pollard Perkins of Corinth, MS.

Mr. Perkins was a retired Life Insurance agent, sports writer and local sports radio personality.  He was a passionate fan of Ole Miss Football and would talk SEC sports with all who would listen.  In his earlier days, Bill also enjoyed playing golf.  He had a great sense of humor and will be remembered by his friends in the daily Liar's Club gatherings as Sponge-Bob.

His ex-wife, Peggy Capooth Perkins, preceded Mr. Perkins in death.  Mr. Perkins leaves behind his daughters – Frankie (Bill) Wilkins and Amanda (Rick) Gentry both of Columbus, MS; sons – Rusty Perkins, Leeds, AL and Jim Perkins, Ridgeland, MS.  He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Chris (Carly) Wilkins, Carson Wilkins, Russ Perkins, Ryan Perkins, Rush Perkins, Piper Perkins, Daniel (Ashley) Gentry, Dennis (Christina) Gentry; and 9 great-grandchildren.

His family wishes to thank the staff of Aurora Health and Rehabilitation for taking excellent care of him during his illness.
