Obituary

William David Plyler, 68, of Columbus, MS passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT, Columbus, MS.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date. He will be buried in the Plyler family plot in the city cemetery in Kennedy, AL.

Mr. Plyler graduated from S.D. Lee High school and attended MSU. He played first chair clarinet with the S. D. Lee High school band. He marched with the band in Washington, D.C., and Mardi Gras parade in Mobile. He was a member of East End Baptist Church participating in the youth groups, summer camps, and other activities. Mr. Plyler directed the youth programs for summer camps for the Columbus Recreation Dept.  He played baseball all of his growing up years and played baseball with professional Columbus Redbirds baseball team. He enjoyed playing his guitar and writing songs. Mr. Plyler worked for UPS for many years, he owned the Columbus River Park Golf driving range, and until 2 weeks ago was delivering Columbus and Tuscaloosa newspaper routes. His hobby was collecting antiques, old signs, and enlarging and restoring old photos. Mr. Plyler is preceded in death by his brother- Jeff Plyler; grandparents- Lester and Pearl Plyler and Mayo and Estelle Atkins.

Mr. Plyler is survived by his parents Bill and Mary Ann Plyler, one brother Philip Plyler and his wife Leisha. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
