Obituary

William "Bill" Mixon William P. "Bill" Mixon, 65, of Sulligent, AL passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT, Columbus, MS. Visitation was Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 6 – 8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services were Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 11 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, MS with Bro. David Westmoreland officiating. Interment was in Cedar Tree Cemetery, Hackleburg, AL with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Mixon was born June 27, 1947 in Russellville, AL to the late Lecil Clyde Mixon, Jr. and Caroline Fite Mixon. He lived in the Molloy Community of Lamar County, AL, graduated from Hamilton High School in 1965, attended Northwest Alabama Junior College, where he met his future bride, and graduated from Mississippi State University. Mr. Mixon served seven years in the Alabama National Guard, was a member of the Teamsters Union, and retired as a truck driver for Consolidated Freightway after 30 years of service. He was a member and Past Master of Columbus Lodge #5 F&AM. Mr. Mixon was also a member of Scottish Rite and York Rite Masonic Bodies, Order of Eastern Star, Vernon Masonic Lodge #389, Vernon, AL, Southern Cruisers Car Club, Columbus, MS, and the Lamar County Historical Society. He also was a member of the Lamar County Sons of Liberty SAR, where he held various offices. Mr. Mixon was a member of Border Springs Baptist Church, Caledonia, MS, where he served as a deacon and other various positions and he was a Gideon. He was a frequent customer at local coffee shops and was an avid Mississippi State fan. Mr. Mixon enjoyed throwing out Christmas candy in Christmas parades from his antique cars. He married Jackie Knight Mixon at Border Sprigs Baptist Church, Caledonia, MS on December 23, 1973. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mixon is preceded in death by his father-in-law – Doyle Knight and mother-in-law – Alice Knight. Mr. Mixon is survived by his wife – Jackie Mixon, Sulligent, AL; daughter – Emma Jane Mixon, Sulligent, AL; sister – Carrie Mixon Bolton, Hamilton, AL; nephews – John Bolton and Jeremy Jones; and niece – Melissa Hatle. Pallbearers were John Partain, John Bolton, Ray Duncan, Carl Thornton, Tom Linn, and Wilburn Beatty. Honorary Pallbearers were Border Springs Baptist Church Deacons and Men, North Lamar Rescue Squad, Local Coffee Drinkers, members of Columbus Masonic Lodge #5 F&AM, Columbus, MS, and Vernon Masonic Lodge #389 F&AM, Vernon, AL. Memorials may be made to Border Springs Baptist Church, P.O.
