Obituary

William Vester Hutcheson, Sr., 96, of Columbus, MS passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021, at his residence.

A visitation will be held Friday, April 23, 2021, from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home. A service will follow in the chapel with Bro. Steve Lammons officiating. A graveside service will be at 3:00 PM Friday at Liberty Cemetery, Nettleton, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.

Mr. Hutcheson was born on May 31, 1924, in Guntown, MS to the late Tobitha Wigginton Hutcheson and Percy Melmon Hutcheson. He was the captain of the basketball team of Guntown High School, Guntown, MS, and graduated in 1942.  He was a charter member of Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS and faithfully attending Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Hutcheson enjoyed horses, training them, riding his Harley and Indian motorcycles, and boating. He also enjoyed being a member of Magnolia Corvette Club and showing his 1962 Corvette convertible. He taught at Golden Triangle Vo-Tech in Lowndes County. Mr. Hutcheson often considered himself a "jack of all trades but a master of none". He served in the United States Marines during World War II being deployed to Okinawa and Japan.  Mr. Hutcheson worked for United Technologies, Columbus, MS as a Tool and Dye Maker for 36 years.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hutcheson is preceded in death by 3 brothers, 5 sisters, and one grandchild- Kelly Hill.

The family would like to thank the people from Encompass Hospice who made his final days so much better and ours. A special thank you to Kyle Taylor for all he meant to our dad.

Mr. Hutcheson is survived by his wife of 74 Years- Jo "Faye" Payne Hutcheson of Columbus, MS; daughters- Brenda (Jim) Hancox, and Cindra (Jimmy) Henson; son- WV (Martha) Hutcheson, Jr. all of Columbus, MS; grandchildren- Rick (Lori) Burson, Kevin (Gina) Burson, Ben (Alicia) Duncan, Jenny (Jeff) Edmondson, Jess (Becky) Hutcheson, Beth (Josh) Keeton, and Susan Leigh (Gary) Hayes; 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ben Duncan, Grant Duncan, Jeff Edmondson, Brandon Edmondson, Jess Hutcheson, Mark Hutcheson, and Josh Keeton. Honorary pallbearers will be Garrett Duncan, G.P. Hammack, Ken Custard, T.J. Martin, Jason Martin, Jeff Martin, Rick Burson, and Kevin Burson.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Building Fund 1791 Lake Lowndes Road Columbus, MS 39702.
