Winna A. Whitten Winna Lane Atkins Whitten, age 68 of Millport, AL passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011 at DCH Hospital, Tuscaloosa, AL. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2011 from 6 – 9 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 2 PM at Springhill Baptist Church, Millport, AL with Bro. Matthew Fancher, officiating and Bro. Robert Huffman, assisting; she will lie-in-state from 1-2PM at the church. Interment will be in Springhill Cemetery, Millport, AL; Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mrs. Whitten was born January 10, 1943 in Millport, AL to Maude O. Atkins, Millport, AL and the late Dwight S. Atkins, Sr. She was a lifetime resident of Millport, Lamar Co., AL. Mrs. Whitten retired in 1994 from Seminole Mfg. as a seamstress with 33 years of service. She enjoyed gardening, especially her roses, watching her martin houses and keeping children. "Mrs. Winna" had a love for kids and thought of them as her own. These are her special little ones – Libby and Sam Smith, Tyler and Amber Johnson, Caroline Wilson, Ryker Maxey, Brylee Maxey, Emma and Mattie Newman, Nealy McManus, Abby Fields, Jackson Hardin, Mason Hardin, Reagan Hardin and Elijah Parrish. Mrs. Whitten was a member of the "Red Hat Society – Willowing Mad Hatters Chapter" and a member of Springhill Baptist Church, Millport, AL. She is survived by her mother – Maude O. Atkins, Millport, AL; spouse- James Earnest Whitten, Jr., Millport, AL; children – Alisa Whitten, Holly Whitten, Jodi Cosby, Byron Whitten all of Millport, AL; sister – Nancy Cash, Columbus, MS; brothers – Charlie Atkins, Luke Atkins both of Columbus, MS; Dwight S. Atkins, Jr., John Atkins both of Millport, AL and one grandson – Joseph Cosby. Pallbearers will be Toby Atkins, Terry Atkins, Drew Cash, Danny Cash, Tommy Graham, Anthony Johnson, Barry Wilson, Terry Fields, Larry Robertson and Gary McManus. Honorary pallbearers are friends of Springhill Community, members of Springhill Baptist Church, Dr. H. Leslie Fowler and staff, nurses and staff of DCH TSICU Tuscaloosa, Shan Higdon, Paul Lockhart, and family and friends.
