Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James "Jim" Carlton Ayers on November 28, 2025.  He was a beloved husband, father, brother, friend, and outdoorsman, who left this world far too soon. Jim's life was a testament to joy, loyalty, and good company—he truly never met a stranger.

The visitation will be Thursday, December 4, 2025 from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home.  The funeral service will follow at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Rocky Jenkins officiating.  Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS. Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS entrusted with all arrangements.

Born on June 18, 1965 with a natural love for the outdoors, Jim felt most at home in the woods or on the water. Whether he was hunting, fishing, camping, or simply soaking in the fresh air, being outside was where he found his peace. He had a gift for turning any day into an adventure and any hobby into a passion.

Jim was proudly and devotedly married to the love of his life, Angie Ayers. Their bond was one built on deep love, laughter, and unwavering support. To Jim, Angie was not just his wife, but his best friend, partner, and the center of his world. He adored her fully, fiercely, and without hesitation.  Jim was also a loving father and brother, roles he held with pride and deep affection. His family meant everything to him, and he carried them in his heart wherever he went.

A man with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Jim made friends effortlessly. He enjoyed smoking meat, playing music, watching football, and spending time with the people he cared about. Jim was a huge Alabama fan, and game days were sacred—filled with excitement, pride, and plenty of cheering for the Crimson Tide.

Jim was also a dedicated employee at Waters Truck and Tractor, where he worked for many years. He truly loved his job and the people he worked alongside. His work ethic, loyalty, and positive attitude made him not only a valued coworker, but a friend to everyone who crossed his path.

Jim brought warmth and humor wherever he went, offering a listening ear, a good laugh, or a story that could fill a room. Anyone who knew him knew how easy he was to love.  His legacy will live on in the countless memories he leaves behind—from early morning fishing trips to backyard gatherings filled with food, laughter, music, and Alabama football. His presence was a gift that made every moment brighter.

He will be profoundly missed by his wife Angie, his children, his siblings, his family, his many friends, and all who were lucky enough to know him.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents – Robert and Frances Burnette Ayers; and son – Will Ayers.  He is survived by his wife - Angie Carley Ayers; daughter – Brooke (Kirk) Adams; brother – Brent (Donna) Ayers; and sister – Alice Byars.

Pallbearers will be Greg Fondren, Derek Cabaniss, Steve Jenkins, Tim Upton, Brent Ayers, and Donald Werner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Balthis, Tony Carley, and Lee Hopper.

May we honor Jim by living as he did—fully, joyfully, and with open arms to the world.  Rest in peace, James "Jim" Carlton Ayers. Your memory will forever be cherished.
