Obituary

John "J.B." Burnerd Cox, 91, of Columbus, MS, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at his residence.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, MS. Funeral Service will be Sunday, December 14, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, MS with Bro. Tommy Gillon and Bro. Sammy Crawford officiating. There will be no graveside. Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS, is entrusted with all arrangements,

Mr. Cox was born August 25, 1934, in Winona, MS, to the late John Pink Cox and Grace Maude Boatman Cox. He served as a Petty Officer in the United States Navy and then graduated from MSU in accounting, having attended on the G.I. Bill. Mr. Cox worked for many years as the Senior Vice President at Seminole Manufacturing. Upon retirement from Seminole, he opened Cox Consulting Services. He was a member of the Board of the American Apparel Association, the Columbus Exchange Club, and the Board of the Pushmataha Boy Scout Troop. Mr. Cox was awarded the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts. Mr. Cox was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, MS. He served in various capacities in service to his church as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher, bereavement committee, Vacation Bible School, and sang in the choir. Mr. Cox enjoyed fishing, was an avid MSU fan, and enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cox is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Cox; daughter, Cathy Hill; infant son, Daniel Cox; sister, Pauline Clark; brothers, L.C. Gibson, Emery L. Gibson, and Cedell Gibson.

Mr. Cox is survived by his son- Tim (Tricia) Cox; son-in-law- Larry  (Monica) Hill ; grandchildren- Virginia (Brantley) Abrams, Jacob (Jossie) Hill, and Miranda (Bill) Spinner; great grandchildren- Davis Abrams, Annie Abrams, Clay Abrams, Jenna Hill, Caleb Hill, Vivian Spinner, Clark Spinner and soon to be great granddaughter Hill; and brother- Tommy Cox.

Special thank you to Mr. Cox caregivers- Hollie Stobaugh, Madeline Stobaugh, Peyton Stobaugh, Lauren Files, Lisa Bennett. Jane Watkins, Evelynn Walters, and special friend- Laura Glenn- they kept him safe and happy in his home, where he longed to be.
