About Us

About Us

With a passion, commitment and calling to serve grieving families in their time of loss of a loved one, Tim Pounders, wife- Dawn Pounders along with his parents Bro. E.G. and Betty Pounders began construction of Lowndes Funeral Home and opened on August 1, 1997. Caleb Pounders (Tim and Dawn Pounders son) joined in 2012, upon completion of mortuary school, and shares the same passion and commitment to serve others.

During the initial construction in 1997, it was very important to provide most spacious facilities and have the most abundant parking for the families we would serve. Our 11,500 square foot facilities at this time would include a front foyer/lobby, an office area, conference room, casket selection room, preparation rooms, coffee room, two spacious parlors, a 200 seating capacity chapel, and vehicle garage.

On January 1, 2007, in a continuing effort to provide the best service to our families, Lowndes Funeral Home constructed a cremation facility. We offer cremation services with Lowndes County's ONLY on-site crematory. Until this construction, no other funeral home within a 60 mile radius of Columbus, MS was able to provide on-site cremation.

In August 2012, we completed an expansion which includes additional offices and Pre-Need Counseling/Ministers Room.

In 2016, we completed an additional expansion to our cremation facility and again in 2021, by adding an additional retort for cremations, in an on-going effort to provide the best facilities in the area.

At Lowndes Funeral Home and Crematory we are continually updating our facilities and sharpening our skills in order to provide, the families we have the honor of serving, the best and most professional experience during a time of sorrow.

We invite you to visit us at your convenience and experience how truly dedicated Lowndes Funeral Home & Crematory is to serving you and your family.

Rosewood Classic Coach The Grand O'Vale

The Story

With a passion and a dream to serve our families with a unique experience, Lowndes Funeral Home and Crematory had this custom hearse built.

The Grand O'Vale was manufactured in 2020 by Rosewood Classic Coach in Morrilton, Arkansas and took approximately 6 months to build. It's exterior design is primarily influenced by the "Golden Age" and designer Prinzing with elements from the 1930's Rolls-Royce, Packard, Duesenberg, Ford and Cadillac vehicles. The interior woodworking has embedded silver leaf and is inspired by Chris Craft boats. It is built on a Chevrolet pickup truck frame and powered by a Chevrolet Corvette LS3 engine with 430 horsepower.

This vehicle gives families a unique experience during the celebration of a unique life.

Lowndes Funeral Home and Crematory also retains a traditional style hearse and families have the option of which hearse to use during their loved one's service.
