Below are Lowndes County's fully public cemeteries.
If a cemetery you are looking for is not listed it could be considered private or semi-private, meaning you will need to have an immediate family connection to be buried there.
Most cemeteries associated with a church in Lowndes County are either full or you must be a member of the church to be buried there.
In alphabetical order:
Friendship Cemetery- (662) 328-2569. A city owned and ran cemetery located on 4th Street South in Columbus, MS. In 1849, the cemetery was established on 5 acres by the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows. The original layout consisted of three interlocking circles, signifying the Odd Fellows emblem. By 1957, Friendship Cemetery had increased in size to 35 acres, and was acquired by the City of Columbus. The cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and was designated a Mississippi Landmark in 1989. Greenlawn Park- (662) 769-8149. A professional state recognized perpetual care cemetery located at 2349 Hwy 69 South, Columbus, MS 39702. Greenlawn Park was established in May of 1955 and operated for the next 20 years, becoming abandoned in 1975. It was locally acquired under new ownership in 2021, that has over 40 years experience in the funeral industry. The cemetery is being revitalized as Lowndes County's premier burial grounds and resting place. Contact them for more information.
Memorial Gardens of Columbus- (662) 328-3458. An established perpetual care cemetery located at 176 South Frontage Road, Columbus, MS 39701. Memorial Gardens is locally owned and operated. Contact them for more information.
